Sliding Scale
We live in a White supremacist, capitalistic, patriarchal society which unequally distributes privilege, power, and resources. I believe everyone deserves a high quality of life -- including access to amazing bodywork. In both acknowledgement and challenge of systemic inequality, I use a sliding-scale payment model. I trust clients will honestly consider the guidelines below and offer payment proportionate to individual level of access, privilege, and resources.
Consider paying less if you...
experience economic discrimination due to racism
have significant debt
have immigration-related expenses
experience violence and discrimination due to being trans, queer, and/or intersex
are eligible for public assistance
are descended from enslaved people or Indigenous North Americans (I view my sliding scale as one way I can contribute to reparations)
live with chronic pain, illness, or disability
have employment barriers to incarceration history
have medical expenses not covered by insurance
Consider paying more if you...
own your home
have investments, retirement accounts, or inherited money
travel for recreation
work part-time or are unemployed by choice
have access to family money and resources in times of need
have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.) Even if you are not currently exercising your earning power, I ask you to recognize this as a choice.
